our parents

Let no one say that high school's years'
Are filled with joys but never tears,
These four years have been overflowing,
With the joys and pains of growing.

Never could we stride alone,
A path where all along are sown,
The seeds of time as their tradition,
Forms in us a great transition.

Though the path proved often wide,
There always loomed on either side,
The walls we couldn't hope to crack,
That held us on our constant track.

We entered her as children, dazed
By everything on which we gazed,
We take one look at where we stood,
Then turn our gaze toward adulthood.

And slightly scared by how we've grown,
We leave this path to carve our own,
But barriers still block our ways,
And we recall the sheltered days.

The longing grows with every stride,
A feeling we can't hope to hide,
We know despite the glare and din,
We're closer than we've ever been.

For what we are we cannot claim,
The right to credit to our name,
True character when strong and good,
Has been instilled from childhood.

Attempts we make are often crude,
Expressing deep-felt gratitude,
But to our parents when they look,
We imprint love upon this book.

It seems such a short time since the Class of I960
entered Regional. Now you are seniors, ready to be
graduated and to go your separate ways. During your
stay in this fine school you have done much to add
to its reputation and to advance it in its educational
endeavors.

Take with you the best of what we have tried to
impart. Don't stop learning. Continue to advance.
Our best wishes go with you as you move into new

To the Class of I960:

You and I entered Regional at the same time. You

Many writers have expressed their views on the
virtues of good character, honesty and personal
integrity. Each has chosen his own special words,
different from the others, in attempting to tell their
importance. No matter how it is said, these perso-
nality traits remain the corner stone of success and
happiness in life. Be selfish ! Protect your future !
Build your life in the strongest way possible. You
will reap the benefits.

The Girls' Athletic Association is an important organization
which provides after-school sports activities of all types in
which fun, fellowship, and good sportsmanship are the key-
notes.

The Leaders' Club functions as an aid in all sports affairs —
leading, planning, officiating. Members are selected on leader-

Basketball plays an important role in girls' sports. Be-
sides intramural games, the Regional girls play other towns
with keen competitive spirit.

Tryouts are held from all four classes and class teams
are picked. Towns played this year were: Roselle Park,
Westfield, Clark, North Plainfield, and Millburn.

After the games played with exuberant rivalry, the op-
ponents join and are served refreshments by the home
team. How do you like that boys?

As soon as cold weather sets in the girls
head in swarms to invade the local bowling
alley to take part in another popular sport.
Here the girls relax and show good form —
we think ?

Or one may enter the annual volleyball
tournament or go swimming at the Westfield
Y.W.C.A. during the winter months.

Coach Don Schneider's premier year as varsity coach
was marked by the inspired play of the Orange and
Blue. The aggressive defense and the lightning fast
offense high-lighted the Bulldog play and gave the fans
many exciting moments on the way to a commendable
5-2-2 record. Indicative of their fine play was the
amazing come-from-behind tie with the previously un-
beaten Rahway Indians. Much of the credit goes to

all-county quarterback Ed Reese, whose fine ball-handling
and accurate passing led to the downfall of Regional
opponents. Defensive ends Ron Bell and Leo Lospinoso
and tackle Norm Goldberg also brought honor to
Regional by securing all-county berths.

Congratulations for the fine record to Coach Schneider
on his debut as head coach at Regional from the Class
of 1960.

Regional's initial season in varsity soccer competition was one of storybook
proportions. This year proved beyond a doubt that varsity soccer is here to
stay. Coach Hunchar spurred his team on to a 11-5-2 record and the finals in
state tournament. Those who watched the soccer games this year will testify
that soccer will be one of the more impressive and enjoyable sports for the
future fans of Regional. All-county defense man John Messinio and goalie
Walter Duda proved to be an almost invulnerable defense, which backed up the
sterling front line play of all-state forward John Angleman, all-county forwards
Harry Devlin and Hans Kryger. All-county honors also went to halfback Mark
Dewey. This team deserves all the recognition given to it by Regional fans and
will certainly go down in the books as one of our most successful teams.

Basketball at Regional in I960 had its best year in several seasons.
Sparked by the brilliant ball handling of Jay Gladstone, Ed Reese, and
Howie Rudominer; the defensive play of Rich Baker; and the great
rebounding strength of Bill Franklin and Stuart Chesler ; the bulldogs
ended their season with a 12-6 record. Among the victories were wins
over powerful Westfield and Linden, and a great upset over previously
unbeaten Sommerville.

The Bulldogs were seeded with Scotch Plains for the eighth
position in the Union County Tournament and beat them in a thrilling
62-60 playoff. However the Bulldogs were eliminated in the quarter-
final round by top seeded Cranford. The team beat Clifford Scott in the
first round of the Group III State Tourney 57-49, and then lost to
Hillside in a thrilling 58-56 game.

. . . and another winning season for Coach Palmer and his grapplers.
This year's 8-4 record marked a superior season with many standouts.
Captain John Petrozelli (105) climaxed his undefeated duel match com-
petition by winning the district tournament and finishing fourth in the
state. He was followed by four outstanding seniors who all captured
second places in the district tournament: Eugene Becker (115), Ed
Kasbarian (123), Bob Parella (156), and Leo Lospinoso (168). The
surprise of the year was not a senior, but was junior Ron Lucariello (98)
who after winning the district tournament, placed second in the state.

Regional's J.V. team, under the direction of Coach Ray Higgins, had
a very successful 6-4 season, boasting four Novice Champions: Bob
Brenn (98), John Wadas (105), Bob Gardella (112), and Terry Rice

baseball

Baseball, during 1959, was a year of rebuilding
after a great season in 1958 in which the Bulldogs
won twelve of fourteen contests. The team spear-
headed by Vinnie DePinto, the Union County batting
champion with a .500 average, had an 8-10 record
in the regular season and lost in the quarter final
round of the Union County Tournament after de-
feating Jefferson. Many of the games were lost by
just one or two runs. The Bulldogs did very well in
batting, even outhitting some of the teams that beat
them, but sometimes they could not push across the
runs when it counted.

It seems every class holds a cake sale and the one

Other methods of madness for earning money was
the sponsoring of an informal dance.

One of the most memorable occasions — our Junior Prom,

queen and selection of her two attendants. Music provided by a
floor show, and the exotic decorations, and a delicious steak
dinner at 12 all contributed to the success of the evening.

On November 6th, "The Diary of Anne Frank", a moving drama, was

weeks of strenuous rehearsals resulted in a more than commendable perform-

help contributed to the success of the play.
